The design story
As a designer I am always looking for ways to make my clients homes more beautiful. Rugs are an important element of the design story, bringing texture, comfort, colour and beauty to a space. They ground a room and help anchor key pieces of furniture and lighting.
Creating the palette
Recently, I had the pleasure of working with Jenny Jones on rugs for an interiors fit-out in a riverside suburb of Perth. Working with the fabrics and finishes chosen for the interiors, we selected a combination of wool and silk poms to create a beautiful custom palette for the ‘Parchment’ rug design.
Visualising the result
The poms were dropped into a computer-rendered image of the rug so we could see how the design would appear. We could also play with the colour proportions, colour intensity and silk/wool ratios to suit. I love how this technology can produce different results with just a few tweaks.
Same poms – 3 different looks.
Option 1
Option 2
Option 3
The second option has just the right amount of light and shade for the room and is the perfect complement to the rest of the furnishings. I love how the pops of white contrast against the denim and petrolly blues. Small pockets of burnished gold bring warmth to the overall design. And we were able to adjust the levels of wool and silk to suit the client’s budget.
Choosing the right rug
Creating a custom rug is not as expensive as you may think, and can often work out cheaper than buying one off the floor. Buying any rug is an important investment decision, so it’s wise to take your time selecting the right tone, design and size for your space.
If you are interested in creating a bespoke rug for your interior, or need any advice about how to choose the right rug for your space, please give me a call. I’d be delighted to help.
